*A note concerning shopping for Barbie dolls on Ebay*

There are more Honest sellers than dishonest sellers on Ebay. Also, there are more Informed sellers than uninformed sellers. But... it is in your best interest to research your doll/s before buying. Just because a seller has a 99.7 percent "rating" does not mean that some of the dolls being auctioned are what they are advertised to be.

For example:

We recently found an "Original 1960's Barbie" from a highly rated seller. The doll was actually a new Play Line Barbie wearing an outfit from a 1980 issue "Western Barbie" which had a blinking right eye. We sent an email explaining what the doll actually was and suggested that perhaps they (the Ebay seller) had purchased the doll somewhere else and the person who sold it to them was less than honest or perhaps misinformed, and they (the Ebay seller) should be more wary of the items they purchase in the future and intend on selling on Ebay.

This was the seller's response:

"Hi,
No this one does not have the Blinking eye.
There is no marking on the head at all only marking is on the body read 1966 T.M."
Obviously from the response, the Ebay seller had no intent to fraud anyone, they were just ignorant of what they were selling.

The point we intended to make to the seller was that the doll and outfit did not belong to one another and neither were from the 1960's. Besides that, the seller obviously was unaware that just about every doll made in the past 30 years has the 1966 date stamp (the year of that particular body design).

So... just because a seller is ignorant, you don't have to be. Also, you don't have to pay good money for something that is not what you think it is as long as you RESEARCH your Barbies. So pick up a book with photos or scour the internet and get Barbie savy.
Also... if at all possible, try to arrange for your Barbie to be sent by either Fed-Ex or UPS. It is well worth the extra few dollars. The US postal service tends to be the favorite method of shipping on Ebay. Yet the postal service can be very brutal with boxes and bubble packages. If the person you are buying from has to use the US postal service, implore upon them that you wish your doll to be packed in an ample box with good packing material. One of the worst things to happen is to spend fifty dollars on a doll, and receive a flimsy postal service box or bubble pack that has been crushed. Naturally your doll and it's box are also damaged (we know, more than once).
